MUTTON BUSTIN'

Here is my little boy mutton bustin'. Isn't it friekin' hilarious. Ya, he is getting so big. All it cost us was a few hundred dollars after a trip to URGENT CARE. Yes that's right. My boy got hurt mutton bustin'. Who does that?

Well as you can watch in the short clip, the sheep tried to go through the gate (that wasn't supposed to be open). Ooops little slip up on the part of the people in charge. I was a little frustrated at the way things were managed, but all in all the boy had a good experience and some pretty bruised ribs.

Way to go the boy!!!

He should not have been allowed out of the shoot while he was sideways on the sheep. That is not the cowboy way. (Riding sheep isn't either).

20 years ago, my sister and I won first and second place in mutton busting at the Ogden Pioneer Days rodeo. So 2 years ago my husband and I were SO EXCITED to get our son involved. He won first place at the Utah State Fair and won a bike, which is still too big for him.

The next year we slacked off and didn't get the kids signed up in time.

Last year my two oldest boys were eligible to ride. We got them all decked out with brand new clothes/boots. My oldest went first. His sheep rolled, and he was completely motionless and unconscious on the field. Out on the field, the EMTs were talking about neck injuries and paralysis. My son ended up being taken off the field in a backboard and driven by ambulance to the hospital. At the hospital we could see that he wasn't paralyzed, but we thought he was brain damaged because he kept asking the same questions over and over.

He ended up having only a concussion, and was fine in the long run.

A few months ago, he told me that he wanted to try mutton busting again. I was very surprised, because he had said he never wanted to do it again. I asked him why he changed his mind, and he said "because being dead would be better than having to fold this laundry!"
